Week Four!

This week we gave our presentation over the final three ideas that we decided on. We presented the ideas of learning to ice skate, making a “pop-up” brand and starting a podcast. We got some great feedback from some of the instructors and chose to do the ice skating idea.

This was the best idea out of the three when it came to media content, price/availability and overall enjoyment. The difficult part is going to be filming in public. Some people might get upset from being on camera in the background. That was brought up to us when we were answering questions about it. If we were to remake a list of possibilities, the first thing we should do is think logistically. Instead of just thinking what sounds fun.

Now that we have the route of our project, we need to develop a schedule to help keep the whole thing moving along smoothly and in a timely manner. This will help make sure that we don’t get behind on anything because procrastinating this would make for a bad time.

Overall the week went pretty well. We talked collectively as a group to determine our project, which mentioned before, wasn’t too difficult. I just helped pitch in ideas on how to make sure our project can be done.

Week #3

Group work can always be a little difficult especially if we know nothing about each other before being assigned. I feel many groups or teams that are successful have a very similar skeleton that holds them together and helps keep everyone focused as well as accountable.

The number one thing when it comes to working with others I think has to be communication. This helps prevent everyone from becoming confused on who is doing what, but also it creates a more enjoyable dynamic among the group. If everyone feels more comfortable and free to express their ideas, then the creativity will be higher along with productivity. Another quality would be that everyone needs to be flexible. We need to be able to adjust to whatever assignment is given to us. If you don’t know how to necessarily do the thing you’re being asked to do, treat it as learning experience to better yourself too.

The two skills I mentioned are some that I always try to incorporate myself when I am placed into a group. I will listen to all ideas, and be willing to whatever the group needs from me to make sure everything is done as smooth as possible and on time.

Sometimes people are so set on what they are doing in the group that they don’t help the other members which could lead to things falling behind. Another trait that can ruin things for a group is if one person tried to boss everyone around and tears apart ideas instead of constructively critiquing them. This weeks class was another productive one as our group was able to get some great ideas out there for the project, so I don’t think anyone will be like that. We are very close to narrowing our list to the final three to present for next week.

Week 2 Blog

This week in class I finally got to meet the group that I would be working with for this semester. I was assigned my teammates based off of a survey we all took before class started to see what type of leadership traits we possessed, as well as, our strengths and weaknesses. Just from the first day getting to know each other, everyone seems very cool and easy to work with. It should be a fun time producing this project.

We spent most of the time that was given to us talking about what we would potentially like to make the focal point of this assignment. This was actually the hardest part I thought just because there are so many types of activities or topics that we could choose! Some of the ones that garnered the most interest with our group involved learning a new skill such as ice skating, baking/cooking, rock climbing and bowling. We all agreed to bring at least three more ideas for the next time we met in class. I am excited to see what else my classmates thought of.

Another piece of our project we were in the process of making was a team contract. This should help make sure that everyone is doing what they’re supposed, when they’re supposed to. With this project consuming most of the semester we definitely do not want to get too far behind, so we don’t have to rush anything. I have a feeling each one of us doing or part won’t be an issue though. There isn’t one particular piece to our puzzle that I wouldn’t mind doing. I enjoy taking photos and making audio. If I had my preference I would choose one of those two fields.
