Week Six Blog

This week, I presented my interactive project analysis. I went first, so I honestly did not know what to expect. I worked really hard on my project, maybe too hard, because I noticed I was the only one who went up there with pages of notes and a slideshow. But, despite that, I felt very prepared for the presentation.

I can honestly say I learned more about the storytelling aspect of this project from the people’s presentations that came after mine just because my website was an interactive storytelling website, but it was just a story about how much time you waste at work as opposed to a story with an actual storyline to it. Mine told the story through charts, statistics, and numbers instead of emotions and visual aspects like some of the other presentations.

I did though, appreciate the different ways storytelling can be done and depicted, and also how each person found a different website to use so far. The websites that my other classmates chose were all really intriguing and I learned a lot and gained some tips on what I want to incorporate in my own website.

For this week, my group hasn’t done too much about our project but decide that we are going ice skating next week to get content. We also made the website already, and once we actually get content, we will start working on that.

This week, I was not able to make it to class, but I was still able to review all the material on video and audio. Within the team schedule, my team decided we wanted to get our media in various ways.

We discussed the use of a DSLR camera, a go-pro, 360 cam, and even just recording with an iphone and using a solid microphone. We decided in the end that we would bring a couple options with us and decide what would be easiest to record content with depending on the situation and location. I think a DSLR camera and an iphone would be efficient and safe considering we will be on ice.

For the team schedule, we included when we want to go to our first ice skating outing. We will then decide after the first time, depending on how much content and the accessibility to record, if we want to go back and do another trip. Personally, I think for the best content, we would need more than one outing, but we will determine that in the future.

Since I was not in class this week, my contributions included working on the team schedule outside of class. It was definitely a challenge to do it and even write this blog since I did not go to class, but my situation on Tuesday gave me no other . choice. I don’t plan on missing another class this semester, so hopefully I won’t have this challenge again.

This week, we had our project pitches. We decided to make a slideshow, and we chose and pitched three projects. The three projects were, learning to ice skate, setting up a pop up shop, and creating a podcast. For each project, we talked about how we would do it, the type of content we would have, and what we would use to execute it.

The pitch went well for the most part, and we got good feedback and opinions. In the end, after some feedback and talking, we decided on the ice skating project. We figured it would have the best opportunity for good content, while being fun at the same time. None of us are good at ice skating, so the process of learning will be very exciting.

For this project, I think one of the only and biggest challenges we will encounter is finding time that works for all of us to go ice skating. Also, we still have not discussed when and how often we want to go. This ties into the topic of scheduling. We still need to sit with each other and create a schedule that we can all stick to and make sure we commit to going the amount of times we agree on.

A schedule is so important for bigger group projects like this, because they are not the type where they can be thrown together last minute, they require actual time commitment and effort.

For a team to be successful, everyone needs to be part of it. I believe the only way to effectively be successful is if everyone puts in equal amount of effort and works really hard to ensure they bring to the team what it needs. I also think communication is one of the most important factors of a successful team as well.

Some characteristics of a good team can come down to the way they act. Kindness and understanding are so important, and are needed, but so is the ability to help someone out, and let them know when they’re falling off track. A lot of people take criticism as a negative thing, when it is just for the good of the team.

A team not working together successful can have a lot of reasons. It is very important to get along with the people you work with, and when emotions and negative feels get involved, it is easy to not be successful in a team. Also, when a team member does not carry their weight, it puts everyone else in the team in a bad situation, holding them back.

For this week, my team got more familiar with each other and the ideas that we wanted to think of. We also decided on our team contract, and that was finalized and turned in by me. There was not many challenges to this week, we all effectively communicated, and listened and had really good ideas to share.

This week, my group got together and got introduced to each other. We started by setting up a way for us to communicate with each other outside of class. We chose to utilize Group-me, as it is similar to texting and we would get a notification right away on our phones. We also started to set up this blog, and ensured we all got access to it. We had some trouble at first with making sure we all had access to publishing without having to send it through the “admin”, but after a quick posting test, we figured it out.

Also during our short meeting time, we started discussing how we wanted to set up our contract. We decided it would be the “safer” route to create a more detailed, worded contract in the unfortunate case one of the group members does not carry their weight at a point in the semester.

During our first meeting, we also began discussing some ideas for our project. We did not discuss for too long, but we collectively decided we wanted to do something fun together, and it came to us learning/doing something together over the course of the semester. We also decided we wanted to do something that none of us have done before, or something that none of us are experts in. We still do not know exactly what that is, but we are planning on doing some more brainstorming soon. We also haven’t got to know each other too well yet, so our interests haven’t fully been discussed yet.
